How to Make Primitive Crafts

There are tons of ideas for making primitive crafts. You can use so many methods and create virtually the same thing. You can also use old patterns or old crafting ideas to create something that looks like it was made to be a primitive craft. There are lots of different things that you can do. Here are some ideas for how to make primitive crafts.

If you want to give fabric a vintage look, you will need some hot water, large bowl, and instant coffee. Put the hot water and a few tablespoons of coffee into the water. Soak the fabric in the coffee mixture. The water will be hot so use a ladle or some gloves so your hands don’t get hurt. Let the fabric soak for a couple minutes or longer if you want the fabric to get darker. Let the fabric dry outside on a clothesline or on a drying rack. Make sure that you put a towel on the floor under the drying rack so that you don’t have a puddle of coffee mixture on your floor.

Another mixture that you can make for paper crafts to make things like prim tags is this. Get a cup of hot water, 4 tablespoons of vanilla extract and instant coffee. If you want it darker you can always add more instant coffee but start with this amount. Mix everything together. Dip your cardstock or tags into the mixture and leave them in for about 30 minutes. Let the dry off on some paper towels or some rags that you don’t care if they get stained. You can use this mixture for cardstock or manila tags.

You can also paint frames or even furniture to make it look older. Use browns and blacks. You will want to paint layers onto the wood so give it time to dry. The layers of different colors will give it a rustic and older looking feel. If you really want to make it look more professional get a book on painting with some ideas and instructions on painting to make things look primitive.

There are lots of different ways that you can make primitive crafts. If you have never made them before you will want to get together with someone or get a book about them. You can have a craft night with some friends or you can take a class at a local craft store. There are also tons of books on primitive crafts and how to make them. I love these ideas. Thank you! I really like the rustic-primitive, but can’t really afford to buy them at the store. This helps due to the fact that my house is older; just some of it has been updated. I would love some more primitive stuff and this way I can get more for less that is just as good!

Ah! I bought the exact same shelves from Target and had the EXACT same problem! I actually tore up my receipt from Target, rolled it into a few small balls and shoved it in the holes on the back of the shelf. Worked like a charm. Great minds…. :)
