Math Homework Help

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Barbara J. Feldman

Need help with your math homework? Who ya gonna call? When mom, dad, your older sister, your best friend, and your next-door-neighbor can't help, these sites will be there for you. Some offer archives of previously asked questions and answers, others provide forums where you can ask your own questions. And a few of them are simply computers, programmed to know math.

Math Forum: Ask Dr. Math

5 stars

Operating under Drexel University's School of Education, the Math Forum's Ask Dr. Math program uses college math students (from across the country) to help other students with math problems. Start by browsing the archive, which is divided by grade level from elementary school to college "and beyond." If you can't find an answer in the archive of previous questions, feel free to ask a question. Keep in mind, however, that all the "doctors" are volunteers, and due to the volume of questions, not all questions get answered personally.

Math Goodies

5 stars

Math Goodies is a math portal brimming with interactive lessons, worksheets, crossword puzzles, and a homework help forum where you can post specific math problems. The forum is divided by level, from Basic Math to Calculus, and Probability and Statistics. The forum is superbly moderated and older posts are locked (no additional replies allowed) but still available to read. While some of the lessons and worksheets are for sale, there are many free samples to peruse.

Math Help Forum

5 stars

Math Help Forum is an extremely busy discussion board that prides itself on being the "math help forum with the fastest response time on the Net." In addition to forums organized by grade and math level, there is even a specific forum for Urgent Homework Help, with the tagline "Post it here if you are in a hurry!" And unlike most of the other sites in today's tour, college math is well-represented with forums for discrete math, advanced applied math, number theory, and other college topics.

QuickMath

5 stars

Powered by the Mathematica software package, QuickMath provides instant solutions to common algebra and calculus problems, in your browser, while you wait. "Think of it as an online calculator that solves equations and does all sorts of algebra and calculus problems - instantly and automatically!" Start by choosing a topic (algebra, equations, inequalities, calculus, matrices, graphs or numbers) and then simply type your own problem over the sample expression in the calculator.

Web Math

5 stars

No need to wait for an answer at a forum if your problem can be solved by one of the more than one hundred "instant-answer, self-help, math solvers" at Webmath.com. Start either with detailed topics in the drop-down list, or choose your math level from the horizontal nav menu at the top of the page. For guidance on entering fractions, exponents, and constants such as pi or e, click on the "Help Typing Your Problem" link near the bottom of each page.
