A few years ago, the piles of paper that covered every flat surface of my house finally got to me. I was ready to scream, "Uncle!" In fact, I did scream. And it was Kathi Burns who felt my pain and came to my rescue.
Kathi is a professional organizer. She came into my house, designed a new office for me, set up an amazing filing system, and helped me back from the brink of insanity. Those who know me, know that to this day, I still struggle with paperwork. But I am on the way to recovery. And Kathi was my first life preserver.
Fast forward four years, and now Kathi has brand new book titled "How to Master Your Muck." I thought it was a funny title, but Kathi explains muck this way. "Anything that keeps you limited, unproductive, unsuccessful or unfulfilled is a form of 'muck.' It's the nature of muck to assault the human spirit by stealing energy, stifling creativity, sabotaging success and undermining happiness."
Okay, now the bad news. Amazon has sold out of her book. Here's what I recommend:
1) "Order it anyway, and as soon as it becomes available, you'll be among the first to get it.
2) Take a minute to sign up for her free email newsletter at her site Add Space to Your Life. You'll get weekly tips and her inspirational before and after pictures. Every couple of years, I see my OWN before/after pix appear in her newsletter. But Kathi's professional enough to keep my identity secret. You'll just have to guess which of those pathetic paper piles were once mine. Ha ha ha!
Whether you are a small business owner, a stay-at-home parent or a corporate executive,
this compelling guidebook will give you the skills to conquer the ares in your life that
often become stuck and overwhelming: paper piles, time overwhelm, technology stranglehods
and more. You will learn simple but powerful methods that will help you take control of your
poccessions, your time, and your image, so that you may begin to achieve your full potential.
Owls are nocturnal birds of prey with an acute sense of hearing and excellent night-vision. Because of the frayed edges on their wings, they fly soundlessly as they swoop down on their prey, which typically include small destructive rodents such as rats and gophers.
BioKids: Owls
"There are almost 200 different species of owls around the world. These nocturnal carnivores (night-time hunters) have large eyes that face forward, for seeing in three dimensions in dim light. They also have disk-shaped faces that help focus the slightest sounds their small prey might make in the dark."BioKids is home to an excellent owl introduction, which includes a photo gallery, some recorded owl calls, and a classification listing of owl species within the order Strigiformes. BioKids is a don resource for both school reports and the simply curious.
Biology Corner: Owl Pellets
"Owl pellets are masses of bone, teeth, hair, feathers and exoskeletons of various animals preyed upon by raptors, or birds of prey. Pellets are produced and regurgitated not only by owls, but by hawks, eagles and other raptors that swallow their prey whole of in small pieces."This classroom (or homeschool) lab worksheet introduces owl pellets and provides a form for summarizing the bones discovered in a dissected pellet. Be sure to print out the accompanying Owl Pellet Bone Chart, which diagrams the bones (skull, scapula, rib, etc.) of rodents, shrews, moles and birds.
KidWings: Virtual Owl Pellet Dissection
Don't have an owl pellet of your own? No worries! You can perform a virtual pellet dissection online at KidWings. Start with the great Pellet Information section ("Are Pellets Important?") then move on to read the directions about how to perform the virtual pellet dissection. Then, last but certainly not least, is the actual Virtual Pellet Dissection. Click, click. Enjoy! Other worthwhile sections of the site are the Teacher Materials and the Owl Crossword and Word Search listed under Just for Fun.
