Dear Reader,
Wishing you and yours a very Happy Mother’s Day. We have a big day planned, with a fancy brunch out with my mom in the morning and a nice dinner out planned with my mother-in-law. We used to merge the two families for Mother’s Day festivities, but my mom prefers to be alone (the star of the show, so to speak) so whenever I can, that’s the way I do it.
I’m expecting both my kids to join us .. so I’m thrilled! My son’s college is 100 miles from home, so it’s a bit of a drive for him to come, but not impossible. Next year, my daughter will be in school in Boston. That’s 3000 miles away. Ugh. Moving on ….
If you’re looking for some Mother’s Day themed resources, here’s a page that lists all the coloring pages, crafts and other Mother’s Day resources we have here at Surfnetkids:

The history of American Mother’s Day can be traced to 1870 when Julia Ward Howe (author of the Battle Hymn of the Republic) called upon mothers to put an end to war. But it wasn’t until 1912 when West Virginia created an official state Mother’s Day, and two years later that President Woodrow Wilson made it a national observance on the second Sunday in May.
123 Print Cards: Free Printable Mother’s Day Cards
These cute printable cards are easy to customize with your own message, or even with your photo (how cool is that?) In addition to printable cards, 123 Print Cards has printable certificates for World’s Best Mom and Mother of the Year, which can be created either with or a personal photo. The site also offers birthday cards, Valentine’s Day cards, Father’s Day cards, and cards with simple shaped templates (such as hearts and stars) for inserting an image or photo.
Care2: Mother’s Day eCards
Care2 is an activist network that promotes causes such as animal welfare, climate change, and human rights, while giving consumers a selection of free ecards to send to moms and other important folks. There are nearly eighty Flash Mother’s Day cards to choose from, as well as cards for Father’s Day, Groundhog Day, St. Patrick’s Day and so on. For every ecard sent, Care2 makes a donation to an environmental nonprofit to save a square foot of rainforest. They also connect site visitors with over 350 non-profits, promoting many ways to make a difference in the world.
Danielle’s Place
Danielle’s Place offers both Mother’s Day crafts and instructions on making homemade cards. My picks include Refrigerator Photo Magnets (I’m crazy about fridge magnets!), Window Clings (the kind you might put on a sliding door so the birds don’t fly into the glass), the Button Bracelet on an elastic band, and the Mother’s Day Poem on a Doily. “When I see all the things you do / I can tell your love is true.”
