Little Bird Tales

October 8, 2009 -- From Amiee, a parent from Los Angeles, CA, who is affiliated with the site.

Little Bird Tales is an eco-conscious alternative for creating photo books, scrapbooks or personalized storybooks as keepsakes. Little Bird Tales encourages creativity and fosters reading and writing skills by allowing kids to be a part of the storytelling process, while providing parents with a "green" alternative to how they share and distribute their family memories. Kids can share photos, artwork, or create pictures online using the art pad. The most unique feature, however, is the ability for kids to record their voice or other audio to each page of the slide show format book! Everything is done online using a super simple interface designed for children! Kids can even share their creations by putting their stories in the public library, which is strictly monitored to make sure public stories are appropriate for kids. This site has NO ads, merchandising, links or other distracting and sometimes worrisome content. It's fun, safe, eco-friendly and allows kids to share their very unique perspective quickly and easily. www.littlebirdtales.com

Mystery Monster

June 7, 2006 -- From Nick, a reader, from London, England, who is affiliated with the site.

Mystery Monster is a group illustration challenge that invites people to draw & create characters with people from across the web. It is based on the children's art game where someone draws the head of a character, folds over the paper & another person continues the illustration. It is meant as a creative, fun way for people to collaborate & illustrate something together. The project is aimed at people of all abilities & allows them to draw digitally or in traditional mediums.

Art Zone - NGA kids

ART ZONE is the interactive component of NGAkids, the National Gallery of Art's web space for children. Art activities such as Jungle (inspired by the paintings of Henri Rousseau), Collage Machine, Flow, PaintBox, Mobile, and PixelFace encourage free expression and visual experimentation. These Shockwave interactives are fun for children (and adults!) of all ages.

Meet Me at Midnight

May 11, 2006 -- From Cassandra, a reader, from Washington, DC, who is affiliated with the site.

Meet Me at Midnight, an interactive art mystery Web site for kids. It's perfect for eight- to ten-year-olds and is meant to be a fun intro to visiting the museum and seeing some cool artwork. Of course, we hope to teach a little something along the way. It all starts with a class field trip to SAAM. One of the students sees a piece of artwork called the "Root Monster." The sculpture starts to wink at the student. The student is startled and he catches up with the group. Then one of the security guards stops him and says that he dropped a paper out of his backpack. When the student reads it, it says "Meet Me at Midnight." Later that night, after he goes to bed, he remembers the note and the Root Monster winking. See if you can save the artwork before the Root Monster takes it! Do you think you are an art master? Try it and see what happens.
