Walden Media was started with a simple goal: bring the kind of books we all love and admire to the screen. And that's what the company has done with films based on classic books like The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe or recent award-winning novels such as Holes, Bridge to Terabithia and Because of Winn-Dixie. Walden also publishes books, like the Paddywhack Lane series and The White Giraffe. Some of Walden's productions and publications are inspired by real-life stories like the incredible career of Jim Thorpe, or the wonders of deep-sea exploration.
Walden.com offers lots of free educational games based on its books and movies at http://www.walden.com/walden/play. Parents and teachers will find the free educational materials at http://www.walden.com/walden/teach to be useful when discussing these movies and books with children. Free video clips can be found at http://www.walden.com/walden/experience. It's all kid- and family-friendly.

The "Just One More Book!" podcast is a thrice-weekly audio on demand broadcast in which we discuss the children's books we love and why we love them. Episodes range in length from 5 to 12 minutes and can be played directly from our web page or downloaded to an ipod for listening on the go. Each episode is an informal discussion of one of our family's favourite children's books. Occasionally, the episodes feature interviews with authors, literacy related discussions or audio reviews submitted by our listeners.

The SBJ Book Society, Square Books Jr.'s first official book club, is not your average book club. There are two age divisions with separate meetings. The Phase I group consists of ages 8 through 11 (with some exceptions) and Phase II consists of ages 12 through 15. Both Phase I and Phase II of the SBJ Book Society will choose, read, and discuss one exciting, quality work of fiction every month. We don't just pick any old book - we compare novels, new and old, and narrow our selection to the most intriguing and relevant titles. SBJ Book Society members are encouraged to write book reviews and post them to the Square Books, Jr. website (publishers and authors love this).
May 5, 2006 -- From Lisa Cerqueira, a reader from Boston, who is affiliated with the site
Between the Lions, PBS's award-winning television series has been proven to contribute to the literacy skills of children ages 4-7, and I wanted to alert you and your readers to the news that its companion Web site can also serve as a valuable source of expert-approved curriculum of interactive stories and games to help kids successfully learn to read and write.
