Barbara J. Feldman

With the arrival of the summer solstice, everyone’s favorite season begins. In celebration, here is a roundup of poems for all ages that sing the praises of warm weather, long days, and no school!

  • Poetry Foundation5 stars

The Poetry Foundation publishes Poetry magazine, as well as this website, and describes itself as "committed to a vigorous presence for poetry in our culture." This article is a sampler of poems with a summer theme, but only one is specifically labeled for kids. It is "The Swing" by Robert Louis Stevenson. "How do you like to go up in a swing, / Up in the air so blue? / Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing / Ever a child can do!" Each poem page includes a biography, links to additional poems by the poet, and links to related poetry, making this site my pick of the week.
