Find It In Five: Your Child's MySpace Profile

Email this page to a friend with a personal message

MySpace is one of the latest crazes in online culture. Everyone has their own page or knows someone who has their life displayed for the world to see on MySpace. Kids are especially fond of such websites. They love surfing the web, sending messages to friends, posting comments and pictures, and seeing what their friends are doing online. It's no surprise, then, that MySpace has become a community in and of itself. And it's true- it can be great fun to create an online community for yourself. But it can also be a waste of time and even dangerous if your kids aren't using it carefully. This is why you, as a parent, need to know what is on your child's MySpace profile. You need to be able to find and monitor your child's MySpace account. If you keep reading this article you will learn that finding your child's MySpace profile can be as easy as 1-2-3.

But first, let's discuss some reasons why you should know what's on your child's MySpace page. Obviously, as a parent, you most definitely want to know what your child is up to. And since anyone can create a MySpace account about themselves (using true or false information) people can claim to be someone that they're not. It's important that you know the types of people your child is interacting with.

So, if you know that your child has a MySpace account and you want to find out what's on their profile, here are five easy steps to learn how.

1.First, open your internet browser (Firefox, Explorer, or other browser are fine).

2.Next, type in www.myspace.com and click enter, or click here

3.Once the page loads, you will see a long white search bar at the top of the webpage. It should say "search." Now, simply type in your child's name and click "enter." You may not find it right off the bat.

4.Scroll through the list of names and pictures that come up. If you haven't found your child by then, there is another option.

5.Try the "find a friend" option on the side of the page. Type in your child's name or email address. If you still haven't found it you should include your location. So type in the name of your child, plus the city you live in. Scroll through your results again until you find your child.

If you finally succeed in finding your child, here's how to view their profile. Before you click on the picture or name of your child, there should be a few links you can click on, such as "view profile" or "send instant message." Since you want to see your child's profile, click on "view profile." Clicking there will take you to your child's main MySpace page. You can scroll through the types of things that have posted about themselves, see messages, view their friends, and read people's comments to them.

Now that you've found it, it may be a good idea for you to keep a close watch on what goes on in your child's MySpace account. If needed, you may want to consider checking it on a regular basis. It's up to you whether or not you decide to tell you child that you found his/her account. If you decide not to tell your child that you know about their account, you will be able to monitor their uncensored activities. But if you do tell your child that you regularly check their account, your child may begin to monitor his/her activities and conversations on MySpace. Or worse- they might create a new account using false information so that you can't find them. So decide carefully whether or not you wish to share your new information with your child.
