  • Hi Barbara, Let me say, while I have the chance, that you are a blessing. When I first started homeschooling I didn't have a computer, except for our library resources(and still don't), and you were my first newsletter. In fact you were the reason I even bothered to get an e-mail address in the first place. I was floundering in the ocean, trying to teach my then thirteen year old daughter ( who I, out of sheer desperation, practically had to yank out of school) and you were my life-preserver. My Panda (her nickname) graduated at 16. And I have vowed that my son will never see the inside of a school building, if I have anything to do with it. Anyway, thanks muches (I meant to do that). If I had a lot of money, I'd be throwing a bunch at you.
    Again, THANK YOU! L&L,
    Janice Browder

  • Hi Barbara, Just wanted to take a minute, now that school is out for the summer, to say how much my students and I look forward to your weekly newsletter. I receive it at home and in my classroom. More recently, I've enjoyed your notes about your home life and have chuckled over your stories about home renovation...my husband and I are converting a ranch with small boxy rooms into this open cottage like home. We've taken out the wall that divides our living area with the kitchen/dining area and are creating a "great room". While the end results will be wonderful, three months (and counting) of plywood counters, intermittent electricity and water, etc. have taken their toll! Good luck with your project, and keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to next year's topics.

  • Dear Barbara, Somehow I fortuitously stumbled (can one "fortuitously stumble?) across your newsletter "Surfing the Net with Kids" a few years ago. Why it has taken me this long to say thank you I do not know. Please forgive me and accept this heartfelt letter of thanks to you. You intrigue me. How do you create the time to produce all the writing that you do? Not only do I find your recommendations for kids enthralling (as does my 8-year-old son Christopher), but also well researched and of the finest quality. With all of the trash out there masquerading as content, how do you do it?

So now, please accept my thanks AND my curiosity about you. Are you a real person or really a group of friends who share a common web identity (WebID, as in "You cwazy WebID, I'll bwoe your head off if you eat my cawots again!"). This explanation would explain how you can provide so much good content for both children and adults to enjoy and from which to benefit.

Your pages on web publishing also caught my eye. I shall be getting back in touch with you on that subject as soon as I determine that yes, you are one person who has somehow found the fountain of - if not youth, then certainly energy!
    Thank you!

  • Dear Barbara, On a personal note, and if I may use the colloquialism of my teenage sons, I consider your site "Phat"! To be sure, I am of the opinion that you give more than what you receive. On behalf of my sons....our sincerest appreciation and gratitude.
    Fraternally,

  • Barbara... You do such a commendable job with your recommendations, which my sons used extensively when they were younger. Although my Boys are in high school now, I stay with your newsletter to learn of gems, such as todays "nuts and bolts" and the Purdue powerpoint presentation....which I'll also use for my college students......great resources!
So, thank you for your great time and effort in searching-out such fine sites! Enjoy a terrific semester!

  • Dear Ms. Feldman: As the Tobacco Control Program Director for the four Boards of Health of Dover, Medfield, Needham, and Westwood, Massachusetts, I want to let you know how much I enjoyed and appreciated your column in the Boston Globe, "Kids and Tobacco." You chose some excellent Web sites. "Science, Tobacco, & You" was new to me; it is so rich with information. I frequently speak to youth and will share these Web sites with them. Thank you for putting this important issue out there.

  • Dear Ms. Feldman, The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) coordinator for Veterans Day activities informed me that you awarded VA's Veterans Day Web page 5-stars and rated it "Spectacular!" Thank you. VA and the Veterans Day National Committee feel very strongly that one of the most important ways we can thank and honor America's 25 million living veterans - and all those who ever served honorably in the United States Armed Forces - is to raise awareness among young people of the sacrifices and contributions service members have made throughout our Nation's history. You may be aware that VA sends a Veterans Day teachers guide and poster to nearly 110,000 schools each year. Your drawing attention to the Veterans Day Web site helps us reach even more school teachers, students and homeschoolers. Thank you again
