Joining Facebook Groups: It’s as Simple as 1-2-3

Facebook groups are a fun way to share your opinions on subjects that interest you, get together for fun activities and take a political stand among other things. Joining a Facebook group is very simple. Just follow the steps below:

1. Choose a subject that interests you. There are thousands of groups on Facebook and most of them are open to anyone who wants to join them. There are groups related to every subject imaginable. You can join a group to promote your stance on the political issue of your choice or you can join a group for coupon clippers. The options are endless. Most people join a group in order to learn something new, get information about a subject of interest or in order to receive updates on subjects or hobbies of interest. While some groups are just for fun, others take on a more serious, purpose-driven role. So, whether you want news articles, wall posts and links to more info or just want to have fun, there is a Facebook group that will work for you.

2. Find the group that interests you by clicking on the “Group” icon on the bottom left hand side of your screen. Then click on “Browse groups,” and type in a key word for the groups of interest to you. If someone has sent you a request to join a group, simply accept it or reject it. Another option is to click on the “Groups” icon and look at the groups your friends have joined, as there is a higher likelihood you will find something you are interested in joining when your friends are involved. Another quick way to find groups is to type a key word into the “Search” bar at the top of every page on Facebook.

3. Once you find a group that is of interest to you, browse the group page. You are allowed to view the group page without joining it. Take a few moments to look at the page, read the basic info, see how many members are part of it, browse posts on the wall, recent news and the like. Then decide if it is the right group for you and join by clicking on the “Join this Group” text under the photo section. You will then confirm you want to be a part of the group. Once you’ve done that, you are part of the group. Updates will show on your status feed home page.

Some groups are private, and thus they only allow certain people to join. These types of groups require an invitation to join. If you want to join a private group, the best course of action is to contact the group administrator, and ask for permission to join the group. Most group administrators welcome people into their groups, and keep them private in order to avoid spammers.
