Facebook limited profile will allow you to protect your online identity as you can block people from being able to gain access to your account without being your friend. This is one of the best ways to keep your personal information safe and protected from the people that you do not know. A Facebook limited profile only shows your name and profile picture to other people that are searching for you online. You can also change the settings to have a little more information show but they won’t be able to have access to everything like your photo albums and wall.
The old method of limited profiles was pretty tedious as you would need to go into every account of your friends and change the settings. This method of needing to block individuals was really annoying so now the new method is much easier as you simply go in and change the settings for everyone. Then you can choose to block people from your account if you do not want them to have access.
To create a limited profile you need to sign into your account. On the upper right hand side you need to find the dropdown menu and click on “account settings”. This will pull up a drop-down menu that you need to scroll to and click on “Privacy settings”. Once you are on this page you will have several different options to choose from. Here are the settings you can choose from:
- Everyone
- Friends of Friends
- Friends only
- Recommended
- Custom
If you choose custom you can easily make it so only people that you accept as your friends will have access to your facebook account. Here are some of the things that you can set to “friends only” in order to prevent random people from gaining access to your personal information and pictures:
- Status, photos, posts
- Bio information and quotes
- Family and relationship information
- Any pictures and videos you may be tagged in
- Religious and political views
- Birthday
- Posting on your wall
To allow you to properly protect your privacy, Facebook does have several different layers of protection. They want to ensure that their users are able to change their settings to whatever level they feel comfortable with. By changing your settings here and there you can make your profile private to the extent that you desire and to keep certain people away from your facebook profile where they can gain personal information and insight into your life.
If you add people to your Facebook page you can choose what type of settings you want them to have. This means that you can give them limited profile access, which usually means they cannot see things like your photo albums along with preferences that you have like your religious views or political views.
For your own safety, never post your phone number on your Facebook page along with your address. Adding too much personal information will make your profile open to the public and just about anyone can find out exactly where you live. This is a big concern especially if you have children and you are trying to protect them from predators.
Facebook does regulate who is on their website and they will remove profiles of convicted felons and people that are reported. However even with all of the protection they try to provide there are a lot of people that will find a way around these settings and this can make it dangerous for children and a lot of individuals. By limiting access to your profile and keeping personal information off your profile, you will be able to protect your family to the fullest extent possible for a facebook page.
