Dangers of Internet Addictions

Internet addictions may not seem to be a huge problem, but even web surfing can be dangerous. Let’s look at some of the ways that Internet addictions can be dangerous.

High schoolers love to instant message. It is one of those things that if your friends are doing it, you have to too. Teens spend hours each day or week typing messages to their friends and chatting about all sorts of things. However, there are some people who can make instant messaging a nightmare. Some men will prey upon younger teen girls over the Internet. They will send a message, become friends with the girl, and then eventually tell the girl to meet him somewhere. These meetings can turn fatal. If you have young teens, boys too, let them know about the dangers and that not all people online are nice or even want to be friends. Some want more. Make sure you are monitoring your children by blocking users not on their “buddy list” and by ensuring they know about the danger. Let them know that it is serious and not something to joke about. Hundreds of people are caught in horrible situations every year because of something on an Internet chat room.

Internet gambling addictions can also be dangerous, but in a different way. If you have a gambling addiction over the Internet, you are most likely spending money you don’t have every day. This can lead to losing your home, car, and other possessions. This can ruin your credit which means that it will be really hard for you to get a loan for a house or even to be approved to rent an apartment. Also, if you are worried about money or need more, you might result to crime. Crime leads to prison and so even a something that may seem pretty harmless, like an Internet gambling addiction, is very dangerous.

Ebay is the largest online marketplace. It can also be a dangerous place. Scams are all over our world today. It is a really sad part of our society, but we have to always be on our guard. We have to make sure that we don’t get tricked into doing something that we will regret. Ebay is full of scams. You have to be sure that what you are buying is really what it is and make sure that the seller is honest. Ebay has a refund policy if you get scammed, but that doesn’t guarantee everything. When you are selling or buying on Ebay, make sure that you look at the ratings for the people you are selling things to or buying them from. If they have bad ratings, be very careful about buying something.

Internet pornography, cybersex, and online affairs can also be dangerous. You don’t want to get involved with someone that you don’t know because they could be a criminal, sex offender, or just a bad person. Also, if you are married and do those things, you will be ruining your marriage. It will ruin your family, and hurt everyone around you.

Internet addictions are generally dangerous. No matter what type of Internet addiction it is, there will always be bad consequences. That’s why it’s an addiction and not just an obsession. If you think you have an Internet addiction, or know someone that does, make sure you get help. It will only hurt you and everyone around you if you don’t.
