Barbara J. Feldman

Whether you are in charge of a whole classroom, an entire Brownie troop, or just one child, you are sure to find the perfect Valentine's Day activity at today's crop of websites. Although some of these projects will require a trip to the craft store, many can be made with paper, scissors, glue, paint and other supplies you may already have handy. Happy Valentine's Day! Will you be mine?

All Free Crafts: Valentine Crafts

5 stars

The Valentine ideas from All Free Crafts are the perfect combination of easy, inexpensive and creative, and they don't stop with kids crafts. They also include Valentine crafts for grownups, recipes for romantic dinners, and tips on romancing your spouse. My favorites from the kids section include Painted Rock Refrigerator Magnets, a Valentine Candy Dish (made with salt clay) and a Valentine Keepsake Scroll with hand print roses. All the crafts are illustrated with photographs, making it easier to decide which ones you want to try.

Amazing Moms: Valentine Crafts

4 stars

The Valentine Craft selection at Amazing Moms is full of unique ideas such as Chocolate Kiss Mouse (really, really cute!) and the Swedish Heart Basket (I want to try this one.) I wish the photos were larger, but the instructions are well-written, so you shouldn't have any trouble. Elsewhere on the Amazing Mom site, you'll find ideas for Valentine's Day parties, Valentine cookie recipes, and craft ideas for all the other days of the year.

DLTK's Valentine's Day Activities for Kids

4 stars

With a focus on printable templates, DLTK has a huge selection of Valentine's Day activities divided into sections such as: Coloring Pages, Crafts, Games and Puzzles, Poems, Printables, Recipes, Worksheets and Links. Enough for a few dozen Valentine's Days, I think. Some of the highlights are the Valentine's Day anagrams (filed under Worksheets), coloring page love sonnet from Shakespeare (look in Poems) and the educational heart-shaped chocolate box activities (found in Crafts.)

FamilyFun: Valentine's Day 2007

5 stars

My don't-miss-it pick of the day is FamilyFun TV where you can watch how-to video demonstrations of two really cute Valentine crafts. Each segment includes written instructions and any printable templates you need. Other recommended clicks are Valentine's Games (for the classroom or a party), Handmade Valentine Cards (for classmates or that special someone) and Valentine's Day Recipes. If you register for a free membership, you can store your favorites in a personal online craft box, and add comments to crafts you've tried.

Kids Domain: Valentine's Day Guide

4 stars

"Heart-shaped candies, pretty cards and lots of xoxoxo…no wonder this holiday's our favorite." Kids Domain has oodles of do-it-yourself Valentine cards, crafts, recipes, party games for all ages, and kid-appropriate romantic DVD movie reviews. Crafts that caught my eye include the Salt Dough Heart Pins and Magnets, Chocolate Candy Hearts (yum!) , and the Valentine Candy Pots. Each project is rated for age and difficultly level.
