Mittens

Making mittens is easier than you may think and mittens can actually be a very attractive wall or tree decoration during Christmas time. To make a simple mitten you can use an old sweater. Cut out mitten forms from the sweater and sew them together. Use a large button to embellish the mitten and there you have it! You can benefit from the hard work of another by using sweater material that has already been knitted. If you do not have knitted sweaters that you would feel comfortable cutting up, visit a discount or good will store to find damaged or worn sweaters at a discount. Use your imagination when it comes to choosing which sweater fabrics would work best and will complement the other Christmas decorations that you have in your home. These mittens also make a great gift. In addition, of course you can still wear these mittens to keep your hands warm.

You can apply these and other principles to the making of Christmas crafts as well. You can use the ornaments that you make for a wreath or you can turn the mittens that you make into hand puppets. Country themed crafts are great for beginners because there are virtually fool proof. Old, worn, irregular, and faded are all characteristics of country themes. Therefore, in many instances, the more mistakes that you make and the older the product looks, the better the theme of a country Christmas will be portrayed. Have fun and do not be afraid of making “mistakes.”
