To make a macaroni drum, you need to start by making the drum itself. Clean out an empty container that has a lid (an oatmeal container, old butter container or yogurt container are examples). Decorate the outside of the container with construction paper, crayons, stickers, etc. Put about a cup of macaroni into the bottom of the drum. Place the lid back in the container (you could also replace the lit with a taunt fabric). When you strike your drum, the drum will vibrate; those vibrations will make the macaroni pieces on the inside of the drum jump around. This jumping will make a sound in addition to the sound of banging on the drum. This is a fun way to add a little change to a very traditional craft.
