Paper bags are a key element in making luminaries. Luminaries are basically paper bags that hold a candle in the bottom of them. Line up these luminaries to achieve a festive effect on your front porch or driveway. Most people add sand to the bottom of the bag so that the luminaries are more stable and less likely to be blown away or knocked over. You can make the project simply by adding nothing more to the bag than some sand and a candle or you can cut shapes out of the bags that fit the holiday that you are celebrating. You can cut a jack-o-lantern face out of bags for Halloween or cut pine tree shapes out of bags for Christmas. For younger children who cannot use scissors as well, simply coloring the luminaries adds a fun effect.
