There are also several different ways to use this type of craft with your lesson. As younger children probably won’t really appreciate a real lamp filled with oil, you can make paper lanterns that can represent the lamps of the ten virgins. You will need some colored paper (different colors for kids to choose their own lamp color), scissors, and scotch tape. All you have to do is fold your piece of paper in half (colored side out if it only has color on one side) and then cut a number of perpendicular slits to the folded edge. Unfold the paper and stick the edges of the paper together with tape. You can tape some yarn to the top so that they can hang it from something if they want. For older kids, it’s quite possible to do something with real lamps or candles to help represent. You can purchase a small oil lamp and bring them to your class to explain how they actually work so that they might understand a little better why the first five virgins really couldn’t share the oil.
