Be sure to make the hole as straight as possible and remove the piece of the core. Cut the top 3 inches off the candle and then cut a slit into the top of the candle to hold the place card. Put the candle in the hole making sure that it fits tightly. If the hole is too big, wrap waxed paper around the end of the candle. Carve designs into the skin of the apple using the tip of the potato peeler.
