Alexander Graham Bell was born March 3, 1847 and died August\u00a02, 1922. Today we still recognize him for his inventions and contributions to\u00a0science. The following is a look at ten reasons Alexander Graham Bell is worth\u00a0remembering:<\/p>\n

  1. Invented the telephone –<\/li>\n

    This is probably the most obvious reason, but Alexander\u00a0Graham Bell, is recognized as the inventor of the telephone, as he was the\u00a0first to register for a patent. Even though he invented the phone in 1876, he\u00a0felt it an intrusion on personal lives, and did not use one in his office or\u00a0lab. While some debate whether or not was truly the inventor of the telephone,\u00a0historically he is given the credit.<\/p>\n

  2. Research in elocution, and speech-<\/li>\n

    Alexander Graham Bell, while a big contributor to our world\u00a0because of his invention of the telephone also contributed greatly through his\u00a0research and studies on speech and hearing. Because his mother was deaf,\u00a0Alexander took a great interest in communication, acoustics, elocution, and\u00a0speech and hearing. He was very involved in much research in these subjects, as\u00a0were his father and uncle. Between them, several well known works on the\u00a0subject of elocution were published including, The Standard Elocutionist. <\/p>\n

  3. Other Inventions-<\/li>\n

    Alexander Graham Bell was not a one hit wonder when it comes\u00a0to inventions, while his invention of the telephone is the most famous, due to\u00a0its affect on modern day life, he also invented several other things, including\u00a0a wheat huller which he used on the family farm. The telephone was the widest\u00a0reaching and most influential of his inventions, but his keen mind is\u00a0recognized for other inventions as well.<\/p>\n

  4. Professor at Boston University –<\/li>\n

    One notable reason to remember Alexander Graham Bell was his\u00a0love of education and academia, and his willingness to share his studies, and\u00a0teach. Alexander was a professor of Vocal Physiology and Elocution at the\u00a0School of Oratory at Boston University. Here\u00a0he did much research, and taught many.<\/p>\n

  5. Opened a school in Boston –<\/li>\n

    Alexander Graham Bell not only taught at Boston University,\u00a0but he also opened a school in Boston called the Vocal Physiology and Mechanics\u00a0of Speech. At this school he shared his findings, and those of his father and\u00a0uncle teaching the principles that his father had developed.<\/p>\n

  6. Taught Helen Keller-<\/li>\n

    Alexander Graham Bell was a big part of the world of speech,\u00a0elocution, and communication. In addition to opening schools and teaching at\u00a0them, he was a private tutor and one of his most famous students was Helen\u00a0Keller.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

  7. Not a US citizen-<\/li>\n

    One of the reasons Alexander Graham Bell is notable is that\u00a0he contributed much to the US, and our way of life, and wasn\u2019t a U.S. citizen\u00a0until 1882. In fact, Bell lived in Canada, but was born and lived his early\u00a0childhood in Scotland. After founding Bell Telephone Company, he made Washington D.C. home.<\/p>\n

  8. Worldwide recognition-<\/li>\n

    One of the reasons we still learn of Bell today is not\u00a0because we still use his phone exactly, but because he was an internationally\u00a0recognized inventor, and made a far greater impact than just on a few people in\u00a0Boston, or Canada. In fact, he received many national awards including: a Volta
    \nPrize from L\u2019Acad\u00e9mie Fran\u00e7aise for his invention of the telephone; the L\u00e9gion\u00a0d\u2019honneur in France, the Albert Bedal from the Royal Society of Arts in London\u00a0and an honorary PhD from the University of Wurtzburg, in Bavaria.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

  9. Founded Foundations and Societies still going today<\/li>\n

    Besides inventions, socially and academically, Bell\u00a0contributed to our way of life today, He helped found or lead several\u00a0influential societies including Publication Science in 1883, leader of the\u00a0National Geographic Society for a time, and regent of the Smithsonian\u00a0Institute.<\/p>\n

  10. The Photophone<\/li>\n

    Alexander Graham Bell did not stop inventing after the\u00a0telephone, and he successfully was able to transmit a message on a beam of\u00a0light over 200 yards.
