Some deal with what the future may<br \/>\nhold for us and others have more immediate use, such as the Web cams that<br \/>\nwill bring you the New Year countdown live from Times Square. Have a happy<br \/>\nand safe New Year.<br \/>\n<\/P><H2><A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/world\/9901\/beyond-2000\/\">Beyond<br \/>\n2000 <\/A><br \/>\n<\/H2><P><IMG SRC=\"https:\/\/www.surfnetkids.com\/images\/star4.gif\" ALT=\"****\" WIDTH=\"201\" HEIGHT=\"32\"><\/P><br \/>\n“In your great-grandchildren’s lifetime, dinner might be served by robots,<br \/>\nand airplanes might fly without pilots. Who knows?” Futurists make<br \/>\neducated guesses about the future so companies and government can be can be<br \/>\nbetter prepared. But with technology changing so rapidly, the futurists<br \/>\nsay it’s hard to imagine more than thirty years out. These predictions,<br \/>\nfrom National Geographic “World” magazine, include video-conferencing<br \/>\nwristwatches and driverless voice- recognition taxis.<br \/>\n<\/P><H2><A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.countdown2000.com\/body_a_moment_in_time.html\">A Moment in<br \/>\nTime<\/A><br \/>\n<\/H2><P><br \/>\n<P><P> <IMG SRC=\"https:\/\/www.surfnetkids.com\/images\/star5.gif\" ALT=\"*****\" WIDTH=\"250\" HEIGHT=\"34\"><\/P><br \/>\n<P><br \/>\n“When does the millennium officially begin? One would think this would be a<br \/>\nrelatively easy question to answer. In reality, however, this is a<br \/>\nwidely-debated topic. Some say the new millennium begins on January 1,<br \/>\n2000; others say it begins on January 1, 2001. The entire site is “tr\u00c3\u00a8s magnifique” and is my<br \/>\npick of the day, but my favorite clicks are History and Science Fiction,<br \/>\nboth found under Year Zero, Year 3000<br \/>\n<\/P><H2><A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/learning\/general\/specials\/y2k\/\">Y2K: Year 2000<br \/>\nComputer Problem<\/A><br \/>\n<\/H2><br \/>\n<P><IMG SRC=\"https:\/\/www.surfnetkids.com\/images\/star5.gif\" ALT=\"*****\" WIDTH=\"250\" HEIGHT=\"34\"><\/P><br \/>\n<P><br \/>\n“This is the first time in history the entire world has faced the same<br \/>\ntechnology problem at the same time.” This New York Times Learning Network<br \/>\nfeature covers all aspects of the Y2K bug with clarity and without<br \/>\nhysteria. As you peruse the articles, try the Knowledge Tools (you’ll find<br \/>\nthem just below the author’s byline) which give you the ability to turn on<br \/>\nVocabulary (hyperlinks to dictionary definitions) and Geography (clickable<br \/>\natlas references.)
