Dear Reader,<\/p>\n

Did you know that today is Ratification Day? It’s the anniversary of the day the American Revolution<\/a> ended (January 14, 1784) with the ratification of the Treaty of Paris in the Maryland State House. The Treaty was signed in Paris, France the year before on September 3, 1783.<\/p>\n

The fact that there are so many treaties called Treaty of Paris<\/a>, makes it all the more confusing! The French and Indian War<\/a> was also ended by a Treaty of Paris. That one was signed in 1763.<\/p>\n

Hoping that peace will once again reign in Paris, and bring its blessings to all of us.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968) was a Baptist minister and civil rights leader. In November 1983, President Reagan signed legislation creating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, making it the third national holiday born in the twentieth century. The first was Veterans Day, created as a “prayer for peace” in 1926. Memorial Day came second in 1948. In 1956, Dr. King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
