“I’ve got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty, I’ve got whozits and whatzits galore,” sings Ariel in her starring role in Disney’s Little Mermaid. And now, she’s not the only one. This month Disney released an iPad app that is designed to sync with the movie in a MOVIE THEATER! Yup, kids are encouraged to bring their iPad into the movie theater to play related games as the movie runs.

Although I have not tried it, I’m told that using the iPad’s microphone, it syncs perfectly with the movie, even if the app is turned off, and then turned back on again.

But is this what young families want? A gaming distraction during a movie theater?

For more details on the Little Mermaid app, and another journalist’s take on it, read this article from Mashable’s Taylor Casti.

Then I want know, what do you think? Is this a good trend? Will you let your preschoolers take your iPad into a movie theater?
