A bibliographic citation should supply sufficient details so that the item (book, movie, website, etc.) is uniquely identified. The most common citation styles are MLA (for the humanities), and APA style (for psychology). But many other styles exist, including CSE (for the sciences), and CMOS (The Chicago Manual of Style).
