1) It all started a few years ago when the White House began filling out its Facebook Timeline<\/a> with photos of past Presidents. Now its timeline goes all the way back to April 30, 1789, when George Washington was inaugurated.<\/p>\n

2) Next to catch on was the State Department<\/a>, whose historian has added important diplomatic accomplishments and initiatives to their FB timeline, such as the The Neutrality Acts of 1930s.<\/p>\n

3) The Defense Department<\/a> documents Pentagon history, including the creation of a new position in 1949, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.<\/p>\n

4) The Department of Agriculture<\/a> appointed Norman Jay Coleman its first secretary in 1889. Thank goodness Facebook was around so his picture could be posted. This was, however, before the invention of the selfie. Professional photographers were used in those days.<\/p>\n

5) The Treasury<\/a> shares the following photo of the Philadelphia Mint, created by an Act of Congress that established the U.S. legal tender system on April 2, 1792.<\/p>\n

6) On the Department of Justice<\/a> timeline, I brushed up on some interesting facts about The Sherman Antitrust Act, which was passed on July 2, 1890 “to protect competition between companies and thereby enhance consumer welfare.”<\/p>\n
