Valentine’s day is a fun day where you get to celebrate your love and enjoy some of the finer things in life. Many people give gifts, or decorate with reds and pinks, hearts, and flowers. Let’s take a look at some fun Valentine’s Day crafts for adults:
For a gift: Personalized Chocolate Box
What you need:
A box of chocolates that has a lift off lid.
Wrapping, butcher, or construction paper.
Some of your favorite photos of you and the person the gift is for.
Two sided tape, or acid free glue.
Scissors
Markers, pens, etc.
What you do:
One fun craft idea that makes a great Valentine’s Day gift is to get a box of chocolates. Open it, and remove any cellophane wrapping. Then, remove the chocolates from the box, and set aside.
What you are left with is an empty lid, and an empty bottom portion of the box. So, now you are going to cover the lid outside with a Valentine’s Colored wrapping paper, butcher paper, or if the box is small enough, you can use a piece of normal sized colored paper.
Once covered, find your favorite photos, and create a collage on top of the box. This makes a regular box of chocolates turn into a keepsake box full of memories too.
Cover the bottom portion of the box with the same paper as the top, but do not use pictures. However, you can write a little love note on the inside, or the bottom, for a fun surprise.
For a piece of Valentine’s Day décor: Door hanger
What you need:
5 Precut heart shaped wood or wood and a ban-saw
Sand paper
Drill
Wire
Paint
Wood glue
Small wood cut outs of smaller hearts, or lettering.
What you do:
Start by cutting the wood if you did not buy precut heart shaped wood. It is probably easier to buy the wood pre-cut, and you can find nice pr-cut hearts at almost any craft store around Valentine’s Day.
Once you have your wood shapes (they should be about 1″ to 2″ thick) sand them down so they are smooth. Pay special attention to the edges.
Drill a hole through the hearts, about half way down, width wise, as if it were a bead (so in other words, there will be no hole on the surface of the hearts, but rather through the sides).
Sand the edges where the holes were made. You want it nice and clean. Then wipe off any dust before you paint.
Now paint the hearts and any cut outs you got to decorate the hearts. You can paint three one color and two another for a festive look, all different, all the same, etc. It is a good idea to use reds, pinks, and whites. Let paint dry all the way.
Now, take your wire, and tread it through one heart, then twist the wire so it curls, and make a spiral twist for about two inches, then add the next heart, continue doing this until all hearts are on the wire. Bend it so it curls up.
Now, connect the wire together at the top, and twist so it looks nice to form a door hanger. Right now you have painted hearts on a wire hanger, so it is time to spruce it up a little. You can use a paint pen to write a greeting, or use wood glue to glue little extras on. Make it as fun and festive as you would like, then hang on your door to welcome all who enter during the season of love.
