If you are planning on throwing a Halloween party this year, don’t forget to include a piñata. Children love taking turns hitting the piñata with a stick to find out what kinds of goodies are hidden inside of this craft. To make a bat piñata, simply use an inflated balloon as your base and use papier-mâché (a watered down glue) and newspaper pieces to cover the balloon. After allowing the newspaper pieces to dry overnight, stick a needle into the form to pop the balloon. Cut a small hole in an inconspicuous place on the piñata and pull out the deflated balloon (you will use this same hole to fill the piñata with candy once you have finished decorating the bat. Using construction paper, make the wings of the bat and paint or cover the round portion (the body) in black. You can use a number of different techniques to make your piñata the way that you want. Tissue paper and crepe paper can be added to give your piñata a more authentic feel to it.
