Every year, a number of Christmas movies come out in anticipation of the holiday season. While some of these movies are more adult oriented, there are still a number of recent Christmas movies that are great for families.
The following are some Christmas movies that have come out in the past few years. These are movies that are great for families to watch together.
Christmas with the Kranks
Based on the John Grisham novel of the same name, this is a fun Christmas movie about the Kranks, a couple played by Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis who are sad that their college-aged daughter who is in the Peace Corps will not be joining them for Christmas that year. So instead of spending money on decorations and gifts, they decide to take a Caribbean cruise and “skip” Christmas. This is to the dismay of the neighbors, who take pride in their holiday neighborhood traditions. When their daughter calls them at the last minute to tell them she will be home for Christmas, it’s a race against time as the neighbors band together to help the Kranks prepare for Christmas festivities before their daughter gets back.
Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas
If you like Tim Burton’s different style of movie, you will enjoy this magical Christmas movie about Jack, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town. Bored with his town and its tricks and treats, he finds Christmas Town. Upon seeing the happiness there, he decides to incorporate Christmas into Halloween Town. However, his plan goes haywire and his girlfriend, Sally the rag doll, must help him piece things back together. With fun music and special effects, people of all ages will enjoy this award-winning movie.
Jingle All the Way
On Christmas Eve, Arnold Schwarzenegger is in a race to find the must-have toy, Turbo Man, for Christmas for his son to make up for being late to pick him up for karate. However, he doesn’t know this toy is the hottest toy in season and is sold out in every store. In addition, a postal worker played by Sinbad is another father determined to get his child a Turbo Man for Christmas, along with a creepy mall Santa Claus and a number of other parents in town. This is a cute, fun movie the family will enjoy.
The Christmas Star
This movie follows a crook named Horace who, because he looks so much like Santa Claus, manages to escape from jail with the hopes of finding his partner in crime, who got off, and exacting revenge. When he escapes, he meets a family of children whose parents will not be able to give them much of a Christmas. As he befriends the children and tries to help them and their parents, Horace soon learns the true meaning of Christmas.
Based on Dr Seuess’ book, this movie is a remake of the cartoon, only it features human actors, including Jim Carrey in the main role, and a fun set as it follows the Grinch’s attempts to ruin Christmas and the change of heart he experiences when he learns that Christmas is about more than presents.
Every year, Christmas movies come out to entertain families for the holidays. These recent releases are great for the whole family and will be enjoyed for years to come.
