Yarn can be a great craft medium for kids. Yarn is both affordable, and easy to find, (check out the large selection), at your local craft store. If you don’t live near a craft store, you can check with family and friends, since many people have leftover yarn from projects, that they happy to pass along. Best of all yarn is an easy to manipulate medium, so that even the youngest crafters can feel successful when taking on some of these projects. Whether you are looking for a party craft, school project or just an afternoon of crafting fun, here are some great yarn crafts for kids-
Woven Yarn Basket-This is an easy to make craft that produces a great result. This craft can be done by kids, ages 6 and up.
You will need:
- 25 Yards of 5 oz. multicolor yarn (Keep in mind that you can get about 10 baskets out of one skein)
- Foam Weaving frame (this is the wire outline that you will weave through)
Instructions of the project: Begin weaving the yarn near the middle of the weaver, working the yarn, both inside and out. You will need to make sure the yarn is pulled snug as you go, and pushed up as close, to the middle as possible. Have the child continue weaving in this manner. Keep in mind that the tabs will begin to bend upward, as you pull the yarn snug. You should work the yarn till you only have about 1/4″ of foam showing. As a final step trim any excess, and tuck both ends in.
