“With a cluck, cluck here, and a cluck, cluck there, Old MacDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O!” It was hard not to sing this well-known nursery song as I was discovering the joy of farm animals for this week’s website picks. I hope you enjoy them as I did.
4-H Virtual Farm
Learn more about life on a variety of farms, including those that raise horses, dairy cows, beef cows, fish, and poultry. Each section is organized a bit differently. For example, the horse farm section is a colorful, interactive site with games, videos and Flash quizzes, sponsored by the Virginia Horse Industry Board. In the diary farm section, you can meet farmer Donna Kerr. “The Kerrs have a 650 acre farm in Amelia County near Virginia’s capital city, Richmond. They milk about 150 cows and grow most of the food for their cows and replacement heifers.”
Alphabet Soup: Farm Animals
Alphabet Soup is a teacher-created site for preschool and kindergarten ages. Their Farm Animals theme page features animal sounds, a printable animal match game, coloring pages, a word search, and farm animal poems. My favorite click is the printable six-page Animal Mothers and Their Babies Booklet. Print out the pages, and then cut and color the mommy animals, and draw a picture of each baby animal. Very cute.
DLTK: Farm Animal Activities
You want farm animal craft projects? DLTK has them. Organized by animal (including chickens, chicks, cows, donkeys, ducks, lambs and more), these activities are rated for ages two and older. They use common household items, such as paper plates and toilet paper rolls, and many include printable templates in either black-and-white or color. Each section also includes links to related coloring pages and nursery rhymes.
