Calling all kids! Help Ecology design a clean water coloring book This Earth Day, we are hosting a coloring book design contest for kids across Washington. Students will learn about how to help prevent pollution and design coloring book pages with this in mind.

The Washington Department of Ecology is seeking public input on the analysis through Feb. 4, 2026. The environmental assessment looks at a combined proposal to build a flow-through dam on the Chehalis River near Pe Ell to control flooding and make changes to the Chehalis-Centralia Airport levee.

Each year, all facilities will report to Ecology on the quantity, quality, and end markets of the material processed. End markets must manage recyclables appropriately, without creating unnecessary pollution or further harming the environment.

The Legislature directed Ecology to adopt rules exempting certain types of projects or agency actions from SEPA review. Called ?categorical exemptions,? these actions do not require SEPA review because the size or type of the activity is unlikely to cause a significant adverse environmental impact.
Did record rainfall end Washington?s drought?

We had decent snowpack numbers, but it melted out quickly, forcing Ecology to broaden our drought declaration to cover those regions beginning in June. This is becoming the new normal in Washington.
