Health and Safety Legislation The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (the 2005 Act) states that employers must ?ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the safety, health and welfare at work of his or her employees?. The person in control to any extent of the workplace should ensure a safe workplace, safe access, safe egress and safe articles or substances.

A fire prevention strategy and a fire risk assessment should include detail and a full consideration of all of the issues - including issues arising from heat, oxygen and fuel.

Provide appropriate fire-fighting equipment and training on the use of such equipment to deal with all identified fire scenarios. Be aware that specific first aid treatment for certain hazardous chemicals may be required, and this will be identified in the SDS. Note that safety drills are required by law to be performed at regular intervals.
